Wasabi at Homegrown Sushi

Wasabi is a Japanese horseradish, most famously used as condiment for sashimi and sushi. Wasabi is a root vegetable ordinarily grated into a green paste. In Asian markets, wasabi is easily obtainable in paste or powder form. Wasabi has a strong, fiery flavor, but dissipates in seconds and leaves no burning aftertaste in your mouth. As real wasabi is relatively difficult to cultivate and thus expensive, many wasabi products that are available in markets (and even some restaurants) contain very little or no real wasabi at all, instead consisting of tinted horseradish.

You can easily overwhelm more delicately flavored sushi with the kick of potent wasabi. For the uninitiated, here is a quick tip: a little goes a long way! :)
